Primus Saver is scrapping download caps on all of its broadband packages and will be introducing new services in August.
Previously, Primus Saver offered a basic bundle which gave you broadband with a 20GB cap plus evening and weekend calls for just £1.20/month, plus £13.99/month for line rental.
This will be phased out on August 1 and replaced with a new, unlimited service.
Primus Saver told industry site ISPreview about the changes, revealing that capped plans weren’t as popular as bundles offering unlimited downloads.
Pricing for the new Primus Saver products haven’t been announced but it’s understood that two new packages will be introduced.
Currently, Primus Saver offers an unlimited broadband package for £4/month on top of line rental of £14.50/month. Online, Primus Saver offers half price broadband on top of the line rental for six months, plus a £15 credit off your first bill.
Primus Saver will also be temporarily withdrawing its 38Mbps and 76Mbps superfast packages at the same time as it revamps its entry-level service.
This is apparently due to a low demand for fibre-based broadband in the face of competition from the likes of BT and TalkTalk, who are aggressively marketing their FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) services. At the last count, BT’s retail arm had signed up a total of 2.1 million superfast customers while TalkTalk has netted 241,000 superfast surfers.
It’s expected that these services could be available to order again after three months or later, but Primus Saver hasn’t officially announced its plans yet.
