Samsung’s 75-inch, gesture-controlled, Angry Birds-playing, Smart TV: The ES9000

The Samsung ES9000 was unveiled in New York last night and it’s a monster it’s got a huge 75-inch screen, Full HD (1920×1080) resolution and a super thin bezel of just 7.9mm. Amazingly there’s a camera hidden in there, which pops in and out as and when needed.

As well as facilitating Skype video calls, Samsung’s added support for gesture controls in there. Which means that you can play Angry Birds, Kinect-style on it. Naturally.

Digital Trends shot this video of the avian-flinging favourite in action. The ES9000 is sensitive enough to recognise your hand and whether it’s open or closed up into a fist.

Its reportedly not as easy to play as the aforementioned Kinect or Wii. But Angry Birds sure is popular and it might be enough to convince your better half that, yes we do need this 75-inch TV.

Samsung’s outlined its intentions for gesture-based controls in is Smart TVs with the release of the Smart TV SDK 3.5 last month. So if you’re of the mind that 75-inches is overkill, then we reckon it’s just a matter of time before Samsung releases a smaller set for bird bashing on a smaller (and more affordable) scale.

The jury’s out on whether the acre-sized Samsung ES9000 will come to the UK. Priced at $9,999 in the US, this works out at £6,375, meaning (for now) it’s a plaything of the super-rich and tax dodging comedians.
