Sky Cloud Wi-Fi app for iOS and Android now available for Sky Broadband customers

Sky Cloud Wi-Fi, the app for iOS and Android devices that lets you hook up to Sky’s 10,000-strong Wi-Fi hotspot network, is available to download now.

The app, an early version of which we got to have hands-on time with a while back, lets you automatically connect to a Sky Cloud Wi-Fi hot spot on the go, saving you the trouble of doing it manually.

Sky Cloud Wi-Fi: Locate Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots on the go

As well as this, the app comes with a location checker. Using Google Maps, this lets you see where the nearest Cloud Wi-Fi hotspot is when you’re on the move.

Hotspots can be found in Pret A Manger, EAT, Pizza Express, JD Wetherspoon and Caffe Nero outlets with a number of London train stations getting Sky Cloud coverage soon.

The idea is that Sky TV customers with bundled broadband will be able to watch Sky exclusive programmes via the Sky Go and Sky Sports F1 iPad apps, streaming programmes on the move.

We know all self-respecting Game of Thrones fans will have all that series linked. But if your train is running late and you simply can’t wait to marvel at the court intrigues of Westeros, then you can get your iPad out and connect away. Ditto Formula 1 if you’ve got Sky Sports and the F1 app. Of course there’s nothing stopping you watching, say, The Apprentice via the BBC iPlayer app of course.

Sky Cloud Wi-Fi: What iOS and Android devices will it work on?

Currently, the following devices are supported:

iOS: all iPhones and iPads (iOS 4.1 or later)

Android: HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Wildfire, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Sensation, HTC Incredible S, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Mini, Samsung Galaxy Ace, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, Sony Ericsson X10.

You can also head to sky.com/wifi and sign in with your Sky ID on your laptop. When within range of a Cloud Wi-Fi hotspot, simply select ‘The Cloud’ from the list, connect as normal and then select ‘Sky Free Unlimited WiFi’.

Perhaps the best thing about Sky Cloud Wi-Fi is that up to six devices can be supported with one login, so you can connect your MacBook Air, new iPad and Samsung Galaxy S2 all to the same connection if you need to.
