Sky+HD update will let you search by name, title and actor

Sky has announced an update Sky+HD, making it easier for viewers to search for TV shows, football matches and movies by entering simple keywords.

Viewers can now search for upcoming programmes and scour Sky’s on demand library by entering search terms including actor names, titles, teams and channel names.

Entering ‘Tom Cruise’ will pull up movies starring said actor and entering ‘Champions’ will pull up UEFA Champions League football coverage. Even entering slang terms like ‘Spurs’ will pull up results for Tottenham Hotspur matches.

Sky says it can find what you’re looking for 70 per cent of the time based on just three letters

Sky says that its predictive software will correctly guess what you’re searching for 70 per cent of the time, based on the first three letters you enter. It collates search results based on real-time data from across the UK, serving up results based on what’s popular at the moment.

Luke Bradley-Jones, brand director for TV products at Sky says: “With our enhanced search we are making it even easier to find shows and movies you love, as well as discovering exciting new titles in an intuitive and faster way. We know that Sky+ is used by customers millions of times a day to record anything and everything.

“With hundreds of TV channels, the UK’s biggest Catch Up TV service, a growing collection of TV Box Sets and thousands of movies to rent from Sky Store, we know it can sometimes be hard to find exactly what you’re looking for. Our new Search means you can find just what you want even if you only know the actor’s name.”

Users of the Sky+ mobile apps already benefit from this improved search which is now moving into the living room. Sky will be rolling out updates to Sky+HD boxes over the coming months.
