Read our guide to TalkTalk TVDido Harding, Chief Executive of TalkTalk says: “This is TalkTalk doing what it does best, giving consumers access to exciting new products at unbeatable prices and the launch of Essentials TV underpins our role as Britain’s fastest growing TV service.

“Each week thousands more homes are signing up to YouView from TalkTalk because of our great value offering. TalkTalk is at an exciting stage of its growth and momentum is only increasing.”

TalkTalk TV has signed up half a million customers since it launched last year. It’s the most popular YouView-based service in the UK, more popular than either BT’s offering or non-branded YouView boxes.

In terms of services it’s exactly the same as the TalkTalk TV box that you get with the Plus deal, the only difference is that there’s no hard drive in the Essentials box, so you don’t get the option of recording shows.

The new Essentials TV deal is available for just £7.50/month plus line rental. For this you get Essentials broadband (up to 16Mbps on ADSL lines), evening and weekend calls as standard alongside the TV service.

Line rental for TalkTalk currently works out at £15.40/month for the standard rate, or you’ve got the option of paying £114 up front with Line Rental Saver, the equivalent to paying £9.50/month.

TalkTalk has also today launched SimplyBroadband, a new broadband-only service that dispenses with call packages and costs just £2.50/month.
