TalkTalk is putting the kibosh on its UK call centres in Northampton and Lincolnshire, cutting hundreds of jobs in the process.This news comes as TalkTalk announces that it’s taking less calls from customers.
Speaking to Recombu Digital, a TalkTalk spokesperson said that the ISP had experienced “much lower customer service call volumes and increased positive customer feedback,” over the last 12 months.
Though the most recent Ofcom figures show TalkTalk topping the complaints chart, the overall trend is positive – there has been a dramatic decrease in complaints since Q4 2010.
As the jobs in the Northampton centre are closing, TalkTalk is hoping that staff will be able to transfer jobs to elsewhere in the UK.

“There will be significant new opportunities for existing employees at Preston, Stornoway and Warrington and TalkTalk will be working with affected employees to maximise opportunities to transfer to new roles and thereby minimise job losses in a year that, ultimately, will see more UK roles created than lost.”
200 new jobs will be created at Preston as a result of the Northampton centre shutting. Additionally, TalkTalk is creating 250 new engineering jobs to help with the rollout of the YouView digital TV platform.
YouView is a joint venture between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, TalkTalk, BT and Arqiva. YouView will offer a mixture of free-to-air digital TV channels a la Freeview and access to on-demand services like Netflix, Blinkbox and Spotify through Smart TV-style apps. No launch date for YouView has been announced yet, but it’s expected to be live in time for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
