Ultra HD Olympics: Bradford tickets available, London and Glasgow going fast

Bradford’s National Media Museum has started offering free tickets to see the Olympics in Ultra High Definition – AKA Super Hi Vision – while London and Glasgow events are selling out.

Ultra High Definition TV has 16 times the resolution of today’s Full HD images alongside 22.2 multi-channel three-dimensional surround sound.

This is the first time Ultra HD has been shown free to the public outside of Japan, where it was developed by state broadcaster NHK as a follow-up to high definition TV – which they also developed in the 1980s.

This summer, the BBC, NHK and Olympic Broadcast Services are collaborating to record the Opening Ceremony and action from the Olympic Stadium, Velodrome, Aquatic Centre and Basketball Arena.

The National Media Museum has free daily screenings throughout the games, from July 28 to August 12, on most days from noon to 6pm, showing highlights from the opening ceremony and the previous day’s sports.

There’s also a special live feed from the Aquatics Centre on Sunday, July 29, from 7pm to 10pm.

The BBC is also holding free Ultra HD Olympics screenings at the BBC Radio Theatre, London, and BBC Scotland, Glasgow, on most days during the games.

London is also showing a special film, London Prepares, at the BBC Radio Theatre every day from July 23-28, documenting London’s build-up to the games.

A week after being released, London screenings are already fully booked on July 29, August 4, August 5, August 6 and August 12.
