Virgin TV punters get access to Sky Sports iPad app

Sky has granted Virgin TV customers access to their Sky Movies and Sky Sports iOS apps, as long as their package includes the two TV networks.

Customers can login to the apps using their Virgin TV credentials on iOS devices and via the web on PC or Mac, by clicking on the Virgin Media logo.

Sky Sports for iPad gives customers access to a wealth of extra content including different camera angles and advanced statistics for any of the sports it shows.

The Sky Movies app allows users to search for films showing on Sky Movies TV channels and at the cinema. They can stream films showing on the channels, and watch many of them on demand via iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Scott Kewley, director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said: “With the most sports channels, better deals and now more ways to enjoy Sky content we’re cementing our position as the home of sport on TV, at home or on the go.”

Virgin Media has recently added a range of new Sky channels to its service including Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD and Sky Sports F1 HD to make it a pretty impressive offering in comparison to rival Sky’s selection.

As an extra advantage over BT services, Virgin Media customers can also sign up for a Season Ticket subscription that allows them to sign up for the Sky Sports channels on a ten-month plan, including the new Sky Sports 5 HD for £150, providing a 40 per cent saving on a monthly deal.

Sky has also announced it will revamp its sports offering with the addition of Sky Sports News HQ and the Sky Sports 5 from August 12. The latter channel will offer European football, while Sky Sports News HQ will offer a new schedule, studio and improved social media coverage for fans across the country.
