Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi R205: Connect up to 5 devices

Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi R205: £65 price, connect up to 5 devicesVodafone has launched the Mobile Wi-Fi R205, a mobile broadband dongle that lets you connect up to five devices via Wi-Fi on the go.

The Mobile Wi-Fi R205 costs £65 on its own (plus a standard £10 top-up) or can be bundled with an 18 month Vodafone contract costing £15 per month and giving you 2GB of data to munch through.

Otherwise, Vodafone’s pay-as-you-go (PAYG) rates for data with the Mobile Wi-Fi R205 work out at £5 for 250MB, which lasts over 30 days.

What’s more, Vodafone is throwing in a neat bundle of prizes to 15 punters who snap up a Mobile Wi-Fi R205 from now until the 31st of May. The prize bundle includes a Nintendo 3DS, an Amazon Kindle (Wi-Fi-only) and a Samsung SH100 point-and-shoot camera.

To be in with a chance of winning you’ll need to head over to this page on Vodafone’s site. It’s a pretty cool haul we reckon, but what about the device itself?

There’s an OLED display on the front displaying the usual info (signal strenth, battery life, data, etc) and it weighs 80 grams.

Battery life isn’t stated, but the spec list we’ve seen shows that there’s a 1500 mAh battery powering the Mobile Wi-Fi R205. We’re hoping to get one in so we’ll be able to properly road test the battery of the Mobile Wi-Fi R205.

Top download and upload speeds are listed as 21Mbps and 5.76Mbps – this will of course depend on the strength and quality of Vodafone’s signal in the areas you’re using the Mobile Wi-Fi R205. It’s unlikley that the Mobile Wi-Fi R205 will play ball with 4G when it lands, unlike the Option Beemo, but it ought to suffice for those times when you need a Wi-Fi hotspot on the go.
