Wachowski siblings debut new TV series exclusively on Netflix

The Wachowski siblings have made their foray into television with Sense8 new series that will air exclusively on Netflix.

Sense8 will stream to subscribers late next year. Netflix described the 10-episode series as “a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted.” The show runner will be Joe Straczynski, who was behind cult TV smash Babylon 5.

“Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox ‘Sense8‘ was born,” said directors Andy and Lana Wachowski.

“We are proud to be working with Netflix on this new series,” said Straczynski.  “Lana, Andy, and I are fans of each other’s creations, and have been looking for something to do together for nearly a decade.”

The series is the Wachowski’s first television project. The pair was behind the hugely successful Matrix trilogy and films like V for Vendetta and Speed Racer as well as their latest film Cloud Atlas.

Sense8 follows Netflix other exclusive programmes such as Kevin Spacey political thriller House of Cards. All 13 episodes of House of Cards were released exclusively to Netflix subscribers in February.

Earlier this week, Amazon announced it would run a pilot of the film Zombieland. If feedback for that is positive, Amazon said it would turn the show into a full series.

The Wachowskis are starting production next month on their new sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending for Warner Brothers, starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.
