Zen Internet to launch 330Mbps FTTP broadband

Zen Internet to launch 330Mbps FTTP broadbandZen Internet has announced that it’ll be launching a 330Mbps FTTP broadband service. Following yesterday’s announcement from BT Openreach, 330Mbps FTTP lines are now commercially available to other ISPs in the UK.

Though the current reach of BT’s FTTP network is pretty small – it’s available in just 15 areas in the UK right now – it will grow considerably over the next two years to cover two-thirds of the UK.

Existing FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) lines will eventually be able to be upgraded to full FTTP, by way of an upgrade which switches out the copper ‘last mile’ from the street cabinet to the home with a fibre optic line.

Zen already has a number of customers enjoying 100Mbps FTTP broadband on its Fibre Enterprise and Fibre Enterprise Plus products which have been available since last November.

Speaking to ISP Review, Andrew Saunders, Head of Product Management and Marketing for Zen said:

“Zen Internet was one of a select few ISPs chosen by BT to run early trials of FTTP Fibre Optic Broadband services. We have been providing FTTP services since last year and we now have a number of Zen customers enjoying 100Mbps FTTP broadband. We do intend to launch the new 330Mbps FTTP Fibre Optic Broadband services but currently don’t have a confirmed date.”

Zen Internet’s Fibre Enterprise costs £70 a month and gives users access to 100Mbps download speeds and 15Mbps upload speeds with a 500GB monthly download cap.

Fiber Enterprise Plus provides the same 100Mbps download speeds but offers faster uploads at 30Mbps. Usage is capped at 500GB a month and the cost rises to £95 a month.

Saunders adds that “at the moment our primary focus is on our FTTC Fibre Optic Broadband services now offering download speeds of “up to 76Mbps” and upload speeds of “up to 19Mbps” and are pleased to report we have had a doubling of sales of these services in recent months.”

Zen Internet’s Fibre Active provides download speeds of up to 76Mbps (with a guaranteed minimum of 12Mbps) top upload speeds of 19Mbps and a 100GB monthly usage cap for £29.50 a month.

Fibre Pro provides the same 76Mbps top downstream speeds with 12Mbps as standard, 19Mbps top upload speeds and 200GB a month for £38 a month.

We’re still waiting to hear back from a number of other ISPs regarding their plans to resell 330Mbps FTTP from BT Openreach.
