ITV Player Android app available for 2.2 Froyo phones: Peter Andre: The Next Chapter on your Galaxy S2

Until now, the only way to indulge in a bit of Jeremy Kyle at lunchtime on your Android phone was to have hooked up a SlingPlayer box to your TV.

Now, ITV has gone and launched its own ITV Player app. Available to download for Android devices running 2.2 Froyo and higher, the app is a catch-up style service allowing you to watch programmes from all the ITVs – 1 through to 4 – from the last seven days.

You can search for programmes either by channel – by thumbing through an programme guide – or by manually entering a search term.

Video quality isn’t quite as sharp as the BBC iPlayer app, and we noticed that the sound occasionally drops out as well. We imagine this will improve when future updates roll out. It also only works over Wi-Fi for the time being, so you’re limited to where you can use the ITV Player app as well.

The free app runs on Adobe Air so you’ll need to have this installed in order to use it; if you’ve not got this on your Android phone already you’ll be prompted to do so when you load up ITV Player for the first time.
