6 things we love about the new iPhone 6s/6s Plus

As the world compares notes on the newly unveiled iPhone 6s, we thought we’d share our six favourite things about Apple’s latest top blower.

Design

Say what you will about changing the design of a device every year, but the fact that the 6s looks identical to last year’s iPhone 6 means that all of those additional accessories and cases you’ve poured your hard-earned money into will work just as well this time around.

Apple has even expanded its own first-party accessory lineup to include four new docks that are colour-matched with the four new versions of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, including that delicious new rose gold option.

And if you’re still worried about ‘Bendgate’ rearing its disfigured head, fear not as Apple has spent time engineering a thicker, stronger new body out of 7000 series aluminium, making the 6s the toughest iPhone yet.

Cameras

The iPhone packs one of the most popular cameras in the world, but for generations it’s main snapper has maxed out at 8-megapixels. Thankfully with the arrival of the iPhone 6s we finally reach into double digits with a new 12-megapixel rear sensor.

Not only does this mean better quality photos, even when you zoom in, but the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are the first iPhones capable of shooting 63-megapixel panoramas and 4K video too.

Selfie fans will also appreciate the addition of the front-facing Retina Flash, which can push the display’s intensity up to three times that of normal maximum brightness, in order to correctly expose a photo from the phone’s 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera, even in low light.

Faster connectivity

Apple bills the new iPhone 6s as the perfect phone for international roaming and that’s because it supports more (23) LTE bands than any other smartphone on the market.

iPhone 6s WiFi speeds

But the company didn’t stop there, detailing the 6s’ LTE-A antenna, which supports speeds up to twice that (300 Mbps) of its predecessor. And it even packs double-speed WiFi connectivity, thanks to the addition of MIMO technology (supports speeds of up to 866 Mbps).

Processor

A new iPhone guarantees a new processor and the A9 chip look like it’s going to be an absolute beast.

Aside from being able to accommodate 4K video, it’s also beefy enough to drive that 3D Touch-enabled Retina Display and games are going to look better and run smoother than ever before, if that Warhammer 40K game demo was anything to go by.

Touch ID

Apple popularised fingerprint sensors on smartphones with the iPhone 5S and the improved unit on the 6s promises to be twice as fast at responding to your print as last year’s iPhone. What’s not to love?

We already have a good idea of what the next version of iOS will bring to the table, but the 6s will be the first handset to run it natively. Expect improved security, battery extending functionality and a smarter iteration of Siri to name but three key features the updated OS offers.
