Android Marshmallow 6.0: When will my phone get it?

Android 6.0, known as ‘Android Marshmallow‘ (or Android M for short), is about to launch on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P smartphones. But when is your personal Android phone going to update to Android 6.0?

When will my phone update to Android 6.0?

Android Marshmallow is officially launched on September 29th, arriving on the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P handsets. After this date, the Android M update will be rolled out to other Android handsets from the past couple of years. If your phone is more than two years old, don’t get your hopes up – chances are it won’t receive an update to Android 6.0.

The first phones to upgrade to Android Marshmallow will be Google’s existing Nexus handsets, the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 – and the update is coming in the first week of October 2015 according to Google. The likes of Motorola’s Moto X Play and Moto G phones will also be early Android 6.0 adopters thanks to their lack of overlays.

Other Android handsets will receive the Android 6.0 update as and when manufacturers manage to spruce up Google’s OS with their own custom interfaces, and the networks then get around to rolling the updates out. Which means that users of Samsung, Sony and LG phones (for instance) may be waiting until the tail end of 2015 or even early 2016 for some tasty Marshmallow.
