Android Ice Cream Sandwich hasn’t even officially launched yet, but rumours have already started stating that the next update could be called Jelly Bean.
What’s more This is My Next initially reported that much of the ‘game changing content’ that was due to be in Ice Cream Sandwich is actually going to be pushed back to Jellybean, although an update to the piece states that ICS is still going to be the major upgrade, with some significant changes to the usability, design and structure in comparison to previous updates.
Ice Cream Sandwich was supposed to be the update that unifies the tablet OS of 3.X Honeycomb, with the smartphone OS of 2.X Eclair/Froyo/Gingerbread. According to a Google blogpost, ICS will “deliver one operating system that works everywhere, regardless of device.” Features include improved multitasking, a new launcher, enhanced widgets and a holographic user interface.
Ice Cream Sandwich is rumoured to be launching in October on the Samsung-manufactured Google Nexus Prime, which could include a dual-core 1.5GHz OMAP 4460 processor and Super AMOLED HD screen.
The sweet-themed name named makes sense and alphabetically it follows Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich. Although apparently the name Jelly Bean hasn’t been officially confirmed by Google. There’s no news on the number for the update either – although again Google hasn’t even confirmed the number for Ice Cream Sandwich either.
While it’s hardly a surprise to hear that Google has started work on the next update at the moment, we’re still more excited about Ice Cream Sandwich than Jelly Bean. We can’t wait to see how the update works across tablets and Smartphones.
