Angry Birds Space blasts off 22nd of March

Angry Birds Space, the latest spin-off from Rovio’s bird-flinging franchise is due to arrive on the 22nd of March.

The series, which launched on the iPhone has come to the Android platform, Windows Phone and even Chrome and will be sponsored by NASA and National Geographic. The new version of the game reportedly features zero-gravity physics and a new brace of birds to use alongside the old favourites, according to the Guardian.

Angry Birds Space will be supported by a cross-platform launch arriving “simultaneously in mobile gaming, animation, retail, and publishing,” says Rovio on its blog.

We’re guessing this means plush toys and full page ads alongside the games themselves which is a first for Rovio and reportedly “the first time this has ever been done for a mobile game!”

Previous versions of Angry Birds has seen two Hallowe’en and Christmas tie-ins, Valentines and Chinese New Year-themed levels and the inevitable Hollywood tie-in with Angry Birds Rio.

More will be announced next month, but for a glimpse of what Angry Birds Space has to offer, check out the YouTube trailer.
