Apple iOS 5 jailbreak adds enhanced notifications

iOS 5 has only just been released, but already canny Apple fans have started jailbreaking the
latest version of Apple’s operating system.

One of the highlights of iOS 5 is the notification centre. By swiping down you can view messages along with assorted widgets of Apple’s choosing. A similar feature has been around in Android handsets for a while, but with the added abilty to toggle connections on and off, a feature many Apple fans would welcome.

Intelliborn, creator of numerous jailbreak applications has the solution in the form of the IntelliScreenX, which adds a selection of buttons to the pull-down menu, so users can quickly acccess Airplane mode, Bluetooth, WiFi and rotating lock.

Elsewhere the app adds the ability to view the notifications bar to the lock screen, so you can, including Phone, Messages and Mail, each of which can be expanded. All emails can be read and deleted, and you can even reply to them.

Elsewhere there’s a ticker for RSS feeds and you can Tweet and reply directly from the homescreen.

Of course, we wouldn’t recommend jailbreaking your iPhone, it may invalidate your warranty, but we certainly like what IntelliScreenX can do. Next firmware update Apple?

IntellliScreen X is available via beta this week.
