Apple sues Motorola over Xoom tablet

Just days after Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 was pulled from the shelves across Europe following a court ruling in Apple’s favour, Motorla have come out and confirmed that Apple has their own tablet – the Motorola Xoom – in the sights of its legal eagles, as well.

While no-one’s commenting on whether or not Apple are calling for the same kind of injunction that sunk the Galaxy Tab, Apple are reportedly suing Motorola in the same court in Germany which took the crippling action against Samsung.

Apple claimed the reason for going after the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was that its designers had drawn rather more inspiration than they should have from Apple’s iPad and iPhone. “This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple’s intellectual property when companies steal our ideas” said an Apple spokesperson of the Samsung tablet. How far that ‘protection’ will be taken with regard to Motorola’s tablet remains to be seen.

Not that Apple or Motorola are new to any of this judicial business – the two companies are reportedly in the middle of some 40 lawsuits involving the alleged pinching of each other’s technology, so maybe this will all blow over. Alternatively, perhaps Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 was just the start of an Apple pogrom against the Android tablets. Watch this space.
