Apple wins injunction, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 verboten in Germany

When we posted our hands on pics of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 last week we almost straight away got a comment saying ‘When do we expect Apple to sue’?

Pretty soon by the looks of it; it turns out that Samsung was busy pulling Tab 7.7 demo units from its IFA stand this Saturday. The device was pulled at the order of a court in Dusseldorf that granted Apple’s request for a ban on its sale.

When we spoke to Samsung, we were told that the injunction only applies to German markets; “Samsung respects the court’s decision (The District Court in Dusseldorf) made on September 2, and therefore decided not to display any more GALAXY Tab 7.7 in IFA.”

Samsung also said that it will be “pursuing all available measures, including legal options, to defend its intellectual property rights and ensure its innovative products remain available to German consumers.”

This is a new, separate, injunction from the one that saw the Tab 10.1 being temporarily removed from sale in Europe.

We’ve asked Samsung for further comment on how this will effect the Tab 7.7’s chances of coming to UK shelves and are waiting to hear back.
