Archos launches three stock Android phones for the budget-conscious

Looking for stock Android on a budget? The LG Nexus 4 may be the first phone that pops into your head, but Archos has three new smartphones that may just pique your interest. There’s three models: the Archos 35 Carbon, Archos 50 Platinum, and Archos 53 Platinum. As the names suggest, the screen sizes fall between 3.5-inches and 5.3-inches. Best of all, the cheapest model will start at just £79.99.

That would be for the Archos 35 Carbon. The 3.5-inch IPS screen carries a resolution of 480×320, and specs include a single-core processor clocked at 1Ghz, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a VGA rear-facing camera. A microSD card slot accommodates extra storage up to 32GB, with the 10.2mm thickness chassis packing a 1,300mAh battery. It also runs stock Android, but with a caveat: the OS is a few versions behind at 4.0.4.

The Archos 50 and 53, meanwhile, step things up quite a bit. Both models come with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2Ghz as well as 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and 960×540 IPS displays. Both devices support microSD cards up to 64GB. The Archos 50 is the slimmest of the trio at 8.9mm thick, and packs a 2,000mAh battery. The Archos 52, meanwhile, is slightly thicker at 9.25mm, but has a much larger 2,800mAh battery. Both phones have an 8-megapixel camera on the back, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Finally, both phones are running Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2.

The Archos 35 Carbon will cost £79.99, while the Archos 50 and 53 will be priced at £179.99 and £199.99 respectively. Archos says that all three handsets should start shipping by the end of May.
