BlackBerry Q10 confirmed: BB10 and physical QWERTY (with video)

The mobile world is watching right now as RIM, rebranded as BlackBerry, is showcasing its brand new OS – BlackBerry 10, alongside two new devices. An all-touchscreen device called the BlackBerry Z10 and a hardware QWERTY-toting candy bar called the BlackBerry Q10.

The Q10 looks to be the spiritual successor to the company’s Bold handset line, which aims to combine all the functionality locked away within the new BlackBerry 10 OS (which you can read more about here) twinned with the ease and established popularity of BlackBerry physical hardware keyboards.

It’s a phone of firsts for BlackBerry, including AMOLED technology, the widest keyboard every seen on a BlackBerry, the biggest battery and 4G.

What features does the BlackBerry Q10 have?

RIM is keeping quiet about the exact specifications of the phone, this is what we’ve gleamed so far….

Where does it sit in RIM’s BlackBerry line up?

There are only two phones running BB10, the BlackBerry Z10 is the flagship, but the BlackBerry Q10. The Q10’s specs are pretty similar, with dual-core processors and 4G.We’re wondering it BlackBerry will launch a budget version at some point.

What are the alternatives?

There are very few full QWERTY keyboard handsets available, with the exception of budget handsets like the Orange Hollywood, but the Q10’s specs include a dual-core processor and 4G.

When will the BlackBerry Q10 launch?

BlackBerry has confirmed the Q10 will be available in April globally. EE has confirmed it will be ranging the phone, so it should be available on T-Mobile and Orange 3G tariffs, although there’s no exact launch date.

How much will the BlackBerry Q10 cost

There’s no news on pricing yet, BlackBerry states: ‘We will announce new pricing and availability information as carriers roll-out around the world.’
