Buffy the Facebook Slayer: HTC’s latest Facebook phone?

If you thought that the HTC ChaCha and the HTC Salsa were the final nails in the coffin regarding rumours of the ‘HTC Facebook phone,’ think again.

Word has emerged that a third Facebook phone is in the works and it’s codename is Buffy.

Apparently named after the Vampire Slayer of yore, the phone will reportedly run Android and like the ChaCha and Salsa before it, will be ‘heavily tweaked’ with Facebook “working to deeply integrate its services,” according to a source for All Things D.

The product apparently will be Facebook’s baby, but like the Google-branded Nexus One, it’ll be HTC that will be making it. Whatever form it takes, we hope that it gets a boost in the specs department. Aside from the neat context-sensitive ‘F’ key, those two phones weren’t the best we’ve seen from HTC.

A spokesperson is quoted saying to All Things D: “Our mobile strategy is simple: We think every mobile device is better if it is deeply social. We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers to bring powerful social experiences to more people around the world.”

Not exactly illuminating and it doesn’t really deviate from what we’ve seen from Facebook working with handset makers so far.

We’ve seen the INQ Cloud Touch and it’s brave take on a heavily Facebooked Android UI, Sony Ericsson’s Facebook Inside Xperia efforts and lets not forget how central Facebook is to the Windows Phone experience post-Mango.

All Things D mentions that Facebook is considering getting into bed with Samsung as well which could be interesting – Samsung Nexus Facegalaxy anyone?

It also looks like we won’t be seeing much in the way of a Facebook Buffy phone until at least 12 to 18 months. Just in time for the Buffy The Vampire Slayer movie remake then…
