Flipboard 2.0 brings magazine curation to Android

The popular news and social feed aggregator Flipboard has just announced that version 2.0 of their Android app is now ready and raring to go.

The team behind the service recently brought new features and functionality to the iOS version of their app; such as the magazine creation tools which let users build custom magazines based on personally selected content available across Flipboard. These magazines could be kept privately or shared and made accessible to other users from within the app.

Following this update Flipboard acquired nearly 3 million new users and in the same time frame created some 500,000 magazines of its own, released across regions such as the UK, US, Japan, Spain and Canada. In addition Flipboard has also teamed up with The Financial Times bringing its unique content to FT subscribers via the newest Flipboard app update.

TheNextWeb reports that half of all Flipboard 2.0 users are now reading these newly available magazines everyday, and that includes the new wave of Android users who from today can make use of the same content creation tools as the iOS user base.

For those with the latest version of the Flipboard app (downloadable via Google Play) as you browse content, individual posts and articles will have a ‘+’ icon somewhere on the page. If no magazines already exist, tapping this will let you add a title and a brief description as well as the option to make it available for other Flipboard users.

Right now adding and removing content from magazines is simple enough, although rearranging content still requires that users accesses the Flipboard Editor. The web-based service lets users better arrange articles and content which are otherwise fixed in place on both the newest iterations of the iOS and Android apps.
