HTC announces Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update schedule

HTC has released a new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update schedule. By the end of July ICS will be available to all compatible UK handsets, including the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XL, but some of the cheaper handsets – including the HTC Wildfire S – will miss out.

The HTC FAQ section lists all the phones that will be getting the update. You’ll notice some have wide update schedules and HTC states it may take 45 days from the date the update is launched until it reaches every device.

  • HTC Desire S/HTC Evo 3D/HTC Incredible S/HTC Rhyme: June/July
  • HTC Desire HD:  July/August
  • HTC Sensation/HTC Sensation XE: March/June
  • HTC Sensation XL: April/June

The interesting bit comes towards the end of the page, where the question “What devices will not get Android 4.0?” crops up. Here we have a definitive answer on HTC smartphones and tablets that unfortunately will not be getting Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

On the smartphone front this includes the HTC Cha Cha, HTC Salsa, HTC Wildfire S, HTC Explorer and not to leave anyone in the dark – “and others”. Tablet-wise the HTC Flyer remain on Android Honeycomb.

HTC confirms that the above devices will still continue to receive software improvements, security fixes and technical support – but that’s not quite as good as an Ice Cream Sandwich now is it …

You can find the full list here and we will of course keep you updated with more information as it comes in.
