4G-ready HTC One SV available SIM-free

The HTC One SV, HTC’s second 4G-ready phone to hit the UK has received SIM-free pricing.

HTC’s One Series in the UK consisted of three core devices (the One X, One S and One V), with variations on the flagship in the form of the beefier HTC One X+ and the LTE-toting HTC One XL. The HTC One SV is a variation on the mid-range HTC One S and only the second 4G LTE handset from HTC to grace the UK and likely to be one of the more affordable 4G phones, like the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.

Unlocked Mobiles is selling the phone for £329.98 SIM-free, but there’s no news yet on contract prices, so if you want to enjoy superfast 4G broadband you’ll need a 4GEE SIM-only plan, which start at £21 a month.

Which operating system does the HTC One SV run?

Despite the fact that the latest version of Android; Jelly Bean has arrived on some of HTC’s handsets, the HTC One SV with its mid-range status will hit the shelves running Android Ice Cream Sandwich; the last significant release of Google’s mobile OS. It’ll also feature HTC Sense 4, one of the most recent releases of HTC’s Android user interface, with unique apps, widgets, additional features and an alternative design to what’s provided by the stock Android experience.

What are the alternatives?

The mid-range status of the HTC One SV sits it somewhere between the HTC One V and One S. Other Android handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and the Sony Xperia P or Apple iPhone 4. 4G-ready rivals include the Nokia Lumia 820 and Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.

When will the HTC One SV launch?

HTC state that the HTC One SV will be available from, “retail and distribution partners in the coming weeks. ” EE are cited as the handset’s key partner to facilitate the its 4G functionality and we’re unsure as to whether it’ll be offered on other networks which still only currently run in 3G speeds.

What do we think?

The One SV is certainly a step in the right direction, the capable hardware should appeal to a wider audience wanting a capable, affordable handset whilst retaining access to 4G speeds in the UK. It’s more a case of whether or not EE plan to alter their tariffs anytime soon which would make the One SV more competitive on contract to similarly specced devices from other carriers.
