HTC set to launch two new tablets and a Nexus 9

We could see two new HTC tablets launched this year, in addition to a 9-inch Nexus tablet.

HTC may be launching two new tablets in the coming months, as well as Google’s Nexus 9 tablet, according to the latest internet chatter. Well-known leaker evleaks reported that the Taiwanese manufacturer is set to release two new own-brand tablets, catchily dubbed the T7 and T12, presumably later this year.

HTC to release two new tablets in 2014 as well as Nexus 9 tablet for Google

The post on the site reads: “Besides the T1/Volantis/Flounder/Nexus 9, HTC is developing two other tablets: The T7 and T12.”

The Nexus 9, a.k.a. T1 or Volantis in previous web leaks, has been reported about a fair bit already. But this is the first clear confirmation that HTC is working on two new own-brand tablets on the side.

The website doesn’t go into more detail, nor has it revealed pictures of the supposed devices. Judging by the codenames of the projects, we could assume HTC is vying to take on the 7-inch and 12-inch tablet markets, although the Nexus 9 codename (T1) blows this naming convention apart.

The Nexus 9 is said to be powered by a mighty 64-bit Tegra K1 processor, and include 64GB of storage, making it ideal for gaming and enjoying your media collection on the move. The casing is thought to be made of gorgeous and durable aluminium like the HTC One M8, and will feature an 8.9-inch display.

HTC is no stranger to the tablet market, although it’s been a while. In 2011, the company launched the HTC Flyer – a 7-inch tablet that proved a bit of a damp squib in terms of features and eventually sales. Shortly after it went on sale, HTC discontinued the device, so let’s hope these latest tablets offer a little more now the tablet market has grown in popularity.

HTC has previously hinted new tablets since its first failure, with company Chairwoman Cher Wang saying: “When the tablet comes out it will be something nice and disruptive.”

We certainly hope that’s the case too – after all, the HTC One M8 was a pretty disruptive smartphone, and a slick new tablet companion could be the mutt’s.
