HTC Windows Phone 8 smartphones: due to be revealed in September?

The first HTC Windows Phone 8 smartphone is due to be announced in September according to new rumour.

The Verge is reporting that HTC is readying a Windows Phone 8 device which will be revealed in the third week of September, around the same time Nokia is suspected to reveal its first handset running the latest version of Microsoft’s new OS. Originally (below) we heard that HTC’s the first WP8 handset would be available in October, although with a September announcement rumoured, it could be even earlier.

How many Windows Phone 8 handsets is HTC going to release?

HTC has three WP8 handsets in the pipeline a ‘knowledgeable source’ told the The Verge. At the top of the range sits the HTC Zenith, which has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4.7-inch 720p HD screen and 8-megapixel sensor.

These specifications similar to the HTC One X leading us to believe that the phone could share the same chassis, which is what HTC did before with the WP 7 HTC Titan and Android HTC Sensation XL.

Next up is the HTC Accord, which includes a dual-core processor (allegedly a Qualcomm MSM8260A), 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD 2 screen and 8-megapixel camera. Again specifications similar to the HTC One S, with the exception of that phones AMOLED display.

Finally, the baby of the range is the HTC Rio, which will allegedly feature a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8227 processor, 4-inch WVGA display and 5-megapixel camera

Who else is releasing a Windows Phone 8 smartphone?

HTC along with Nokia, Samsung and Huawei are among the confirmed Windows Phone 8 hardware partners, HTC has worked with Microsoft for years on Windows Mobile and Windows Phone devices.

When will HTC be launching its Windows Phone 8 smartphones?

According to the Verge’s source, the Rio and Accord will land first in October, followed by the Zenith in Q4. Of course HTC hasn’t confirmed anything yet and dates could change if there is any delay to the software release.
