iPad 2 rumoured to have dual cameras: Entire world is unsurprised

While the rest of us have been drinking at our desks, wearing tinsel crowns and listening to Christmas music, Reuters has been keeping busy this December. The news agency has rounded up several sources from Apple suppliers which suggest an iPad refresh for Q1 2011.

The new model of the popular tablet is rumoured to feature front- and rear-facing cameras, according to one manufacturer source (probably not quite as large as in the image created by Engadget, right). Another source told Reuters that the new model would be “slimmer, lighter and have a better resolution display.”

Could we be seeing the iPhone’s Retina Display on the new iPad? Do we really want to take photos with such a large device? Will we be video-conferencing on-the-fly thanks to the front-facing camera and FaceTime app? Is this a good thing?

All these questions and more will be answered by Steve Jobs and co next year. Maybe in January, maybe in April – we’ll just have to wait and see. Safe to say, though, if you’re getting an iPad for Christmas it’s going to go out of date pretty darn quickly.
