iPhone Plus: The latest iPhone concept to cause a stir

We’ve seen some nicely realised mobile phone concepts over the years, some from manufacturers, some from mobile fans, all in varying states of completeness, in different mediums (sketches, renders etc) and the Apple fans at ADR Studios have provided us with yet another to add to their increasing portfolio; meet the iPhone Plus.

Now don’t worry this isn’t some strangely conceptualised partnership between Apple and Google+, but in fact a super sleek iPhone successor, brought around by the impending iPhone 5 launch expected to take place in either June at WWDC or at a dedicated event in September.

We now have a dedicated iPhone 5  page which we will continually update with rumours and confirmed information.

The iPhone Plus is an amalgamation of the numerous rumours and suggested specs floating around the internet; designer Antonio De Rosa has picked his favourite tidbits and squeezed them all into the concept you see before you.

For starters, many early iPhone fans will be pleased to see a return to metal bodywork. More accurately, the iPhone Plus’ frame is comprised of a liquid metal alloy, presumably milled from a single block, much like Apple’s aluminium MacBooks are, designed to give strength and impact resistance.

The screen is a multi-layer affair, with the outermost face said to be made of a double alkali-alumino silicate glass plate. The chemistry involved that gives the specialised glass its name is said to be incredibly impact and scratch resistant.

Now here’s something we doubt we’ll ever see, a 4.3-inch Retina display. With Apple’s iron cast design principles in place, the real iPhone screen has remained at its now relatively tiny 3.5-inch size, whilst most of its flagship rivals have stepped up to bigger displays (the Samsung Galaxy S3 rumoured to sport a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED). That being said, 2012 may be the year the real iPhone make the jump to 4-inches.

Other specs for the Plus include an A6 quad core processor, a 10-megapixel camera replete with f/2.4 wide angle lens and capable of 1080p HD video recording at 30fps. There’s also a 2-megapixel front-facer with SD video, a rear motion sensor and the Plus even takes a leaf out of the Samsung Galaxy Beam’s book with an inbuilt pico projector, ideal for beaming photos and videos onto an available wall/screen.

The striking look of the iPhone Plus also accommodates a fully capacitive home button, which would be a first for an iOS device, along with a newly slimmed down dock connector.

With the limited information available surrounding Apple’s next iPhone, ADR Studios are a wonderful example of how people like to fill in the gaps. We can’t vouch for the accuracy of their interpretation, but we can sure approve of its ideals. What do you hope the next iPhone holds, get in touch.
