Motorola Defy+ coming to O2 Germany in September: Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1GHz chip

Accident prone phone owners rejoice; a rumoured follow up phone to the Motorola Defy appears to be coming to O2 in Germany, prompting speculation of a UK launch.

According to mobiFlip.de, O2 in Deutschland is planning on selling the Motorola Defy+ next month for €300, or £260 of the Queen’s money.

The Defy+, which hit the rumour mill a couple of weeks ago, looks to be a rethink of last year’s water and dust resistant Defy. You may recall the Defy from the TV ad where it was chucked into swimming pools Spring Break style, and still being able to take a call the morning after.

This souped up Defy+ will apparently run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and come with a 1GHz chip burning away under the hood. We had plenty of nice things to say about the Defy when we reviewed it; good camera, nice 3.7-inch edge-to-edge screen etc.

Our main criticism was reserved for it being a bit of a slow coach; a 1GHz chip ought to give the Defy+ what its predecessor lacked in this department.

We’re waiting to hear back from Motorola in the UK for an official line on this coming out over here, or if it’s even real. Real or not, it’s still appearing over on the German O2 site here, although when you click on the thumbnail you’re just taken to an error message.
