Motorola Fire Android 2.2 phone, aka Spice XT316, heading to the UK

The Motorola Fire, a budget Android phone with a Qwerty keypad, is heading to the UK. Cut from a similar cloth to Motorola’s Pro, HTC’s ChaCha and the LG Optimus Pro, the Motorola Fire features a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen with a full Qwerty slung underneath.

Known elsewhere as the Motorola XT316 or Motorola Spice, it’ll ship with Android 2.2 Froyo under the hood but is in line to get an upgrade to 2.3 Gingerbread in the autumn.

Other features of the Motorola Fire include 512MB of storage (expandable to up to 32GB via microSD) and a 3-megapixel camera (no flash). There’s the standard 3.5mm audio jack as you’d expect along with an FM radio for audio enjoyment.

Interestingly, Motorola mentions that the Fire boasts “best-in-class battery life” offering up to 27 days standby in 3G mode and a solid eight hours of talk time.

Android battery life is something we’ve learned to deal with over the years; frequent daily charges are the norm for us. Still, it’d be nice to be able to leave that USB cable or mains adapter at home once in a while.

No definite ETA on the Motorola Fire yet, nor which networks will be selling it in the UK. We’ll update you as soon as we hear something.
