Next-gen Nexus 7 spotted with Snapdragon 600 and LTE

July is fast approaching, and it might just bring the sequel to the Nexus 7 after all. A new Asus made tablet was recently spotted at the Bluetooth SIG, with the company labelling the model as K009. When it came to the branding of the tablet, though, Asus chose to mark it as a Nexus iteration. Not only that, but we have a pretty good idea of the specs too.

The tiny photo that accompanied the listing was joined by some rough specifications too. According to the SIG filing, the tablet will feature a 7-inch LED display along with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, a nice step up from the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip found in the original Nexus 7.

The Bluetooth SIG filing didn’t reveal much else, but the tablet also made an appearance at the FCC over the weekend. More specs could be found there, with the K009 apparently including a 5-megapixel rear camera, 4,000mAh battery, and LTE radios. A front-facing camera will also be included, just like on the original Nexus 7. The addition of an LTE radio is pretty interesting, though, especially since Google shunned it on the Nexus 4. Then again, dealing with a data-only plan for tablets is much simpler for everyone involved.

Previous rumours suggested that the Nexus 7 sequel would also include a display with a significantly higher resolution, reportedly coming in at at 1920×1200. Neither the FCC filing or Bluetooth SIG listing indicate that, however, so we’ll just have to wait and see what Google and Asus have planned. We don’t have a firm idea of when the duo could announce the Nexus 7 successor, but earlier whispers indicated that it would arrive sometime in July.
