Nokia and Microsoft team-up for event: Windows Phone revealed, 17 August?

An invitation is doing the rounds at the moment from both Microsoft and Nokia, inviting journalists to a press event this month, on 17th August in Cologne Germany, as a part of the Gamescom conference.

Yes, it looks like Nokia may finally be ready to unleash their first round of hardware running Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 operating system, presumably with the latest (rather expansive) Mango update.

What’s suspected to be the first Nokia device powered by Windows Phone 7, codenamed Sea Ray, was revealed in June when Nokia boss Stephen Elop revealed a Nokia N9-esque smartphone to fellow employees.

Matching the N9’s curved shape, AMOLED screen and eight-megapixel camera, the prototype device cast doubts on whether the original Nokia N9, running Nokia’s cursed MeeGo platform, will ever make it to the UK. The UK has, however, been named as one of the first countries to receive Nokia’s first Windows Phone device.
