The iPad 2 will be ready for sale in shops from 5pm Friday 25 March 2011, while you’ll be able to order online through Apple’s store from 1am, Friday morning. And that’s officially official.
Shops said to be stocking the iPad 2 in the UK include Apple’s own retail stores across the UK, and, as Apple puts it, “select Apple Authorised Resellers”.
We’re phoning around now to confirm which stores, both high street chains and phone shops, will have the iPad 2 ready come launch day, and will get back to you with all the confirmed stockists later this week.
The iPad 2 has several improvements over the original. Simply put, it’s both thinner, lighter and faster. Now packing a dual-core A5 processor (Apple’s latest and greatest) they’re promising their new tablet has nine times the graphical punch of the first iPad.
In the face of rumoured stock shortages and delays, Steve Jobs said in the Apple press release, “We’re experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the US, and customers around the world have told us they can’t wait to get their hands on it. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone”.
But how much will it cost?
Prices obviously differ wildly, depending on how much storage you’ll need and whether you need 3G reception.
The 16GB WiFi model will cost £399, while the 3G version is £499.
A 32GB Wifi model is £479, while the 3G model is £579, and the 64GB WiFi-only iPad will be £560, while with 3G, it will batter your wallet for a whole £659.
Notice the slight price drop compared to the first iPad’s price-tag? The 16GB WiFi-only version of the new iPad is now £30 cheaper than its predecessor. Even the priciest, the 64GB iPad with 3G, is £20 cheaper than its older brother on release last year. Bargain?
