It’s getting increasingly difficult for phone manufacturers to produce models that stand out. We’ve seen new models offer more cores, more megapixels, more gaudy colours and now, in the case of the new Oppo N1, more gimmicks — this time in the form of a rotating camera.
The N1’s pirouetting lens sounds like a bit of a novelty at first glance, but when you consider that the N1 allows users to point that 13-megapixel snapper at the front and the rear, suddenly the idea starts to make more sense.
Oppo’s out-of-the-box thinking isn’t contained to the camera either. The 5.9-inch screen is a full 1080p offering, it features an ‘O-Touch’ rear touch panel for scrolling, NFC and a 3,610mAh battery that’s more capacious than a sperm whale’s love sack. Other specs include a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a choice of 16 or 32GB flavours, Wi-Fi n and Bluetooth 4.0.
Sadly, where the innovation ends is in support for 4G LTE – there is none, which may seem unusual for a model priced at the higher-end of the smartphone spectrum. Instead the Oppo N1 falls back on four band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and five band WCDMA support (850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz) for connectivity.
Also odd, given the ever-increasing aesthetic demands of today’s shallow smartphone shoppers, is the fact the Oppo N1 will only be available in white as per the piccie above. But seeing as it’s rolling-out just in time for Christmas perhaps this is just to stay in style with the on-coming snowmageddeon all the weather-wombles are wailing about.
The Oppo N1 is set for release in the US and Europe from December 10th priced at €499 (£414).
