Rumour: Apple planning iPad 3 event in February

Apple could be announcing the new iPad within a matter of weeks, with the new tablet landing in March, according to the latest rumour.

Japanese website Macotakar is reporting that an Asian supplied and US-based source as stating Apple will be holding a ‘Special Event’ at the beginning of February to announce the new iPad and the next version of iOS (5.1), with the product being released in March.

This pretty much corresponds with what has had happened in previous years. In 2011 the Apple iPad 2 was announced on March 2nd, before being launched in the UK on March 25th. In 2010, the original Apple iPad made it’s debut on January 27th, before hitting the shops on May 28th.

This is just the latest in a succession of rumours. At CES the new iPad was ‘spotted’ by a tech blog, but there was no photographic evidence. Just last weekend, the iPad 3 was rumoured to be in production with a quad-core processor, LTE and high-resolution display.

Of course Apple is keeping very quiet and we won’t know anything until the invitations are sent out, but we’ll bring your more news as soon as we get it.
