Samsung cancels Nexus Prime October 11th event

Well, here’s something we didn’t see coming. After springing more leaks than a Somali pirate ship, Samsung have announced that the new Nexus Prime (or Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as it’s now being called) will not be making an appearance at a special Samsung event on the 11th October.

“Samsung and Google [have decided] to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall.” Reads a joint statement from the two companies. “We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”

Samsung and Google haven’t confirmed or denied this yet, but the speculation is that the Nexus Prime has been delayed out of respect for the passing of Steve Jobs, who died on Wednesday 5th October after a losing battle with pancreatic cancer.

The Galaxy Nexus had its full specs leaked yesterday, revealing a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Shortly after, a handful of screenshots of the new OS and a complete hands-on video leaked onto the web, snuffing out any last embers of surprise that might have been kindling within that curved plastic body.

We’ll let you know as soon as the Galaxy Nexus gets back on track. In the meantime, have you cast your vote in the Recombu Awards? If not, please proceed directly to our awards page and let us know what you think deserves to take home the high honour of Gadget of the Year.
