Samsung Galaxy S4 mini official: 4.3-inch qHD display, 1.7Ghz dual-core CPU

After so many leaks and confirmations that the device exists, it looks like Samsung has decided to officially announce the Galaxy S4 mini ahead of its June 20th event. There really aren’t any surprises left when it comes to the design or specs at this point. The phone features a smaller chassis than the Galaxy S4 while bringing along some mid-range specs for what we hope will be a lower price.

Just as we’d heard, the Galaxy S4 mini features a 4.3-inch 960×540 Super AMOLED display, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor clocked at 1.7Ghz, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and an 8-megapixel camera. There’s also a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, and microSD card slot for further storage up to 64GB. The phone is running Android 4.2.2 along with Samsung’s TouchWiz modifications.

Samsung says that the Galaxy S4 mini is capable of 21Mbit/s HSPA+ on multiple bands, but an LTE version will also be made available. Indeed, EE has tweeted out that it intends to carry the handset when it’s released. Radios for the phone include Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS, and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n with 5Ghz support. Curiously, NFC is only supported on the LTE edition of the handset. Whatever model you pick it, it’ll be powered by a 1,900mAh battery.

As usual, Samsung hasn’t given any pricing or availability details, but we imagine this one will fall squarely in the middle of pricing spectrum. EE has already expressed interest in the handset, though, and Phones4u has also said that it intends to make the phone available on all major networks. Previous rumours have indicated that Samsung intends to release the phone over the summer, so we’ll find out if that’s really the case come June 20th.
