Sony has confirmed more information about it’s two Android tablets. The Sony Tablet S with its 9.4-inch screen and the Sony Tablet P with dual 5-inch screens, which are the world’s first Playstation Certified tablets.
Over the last few months Sony has released a selection of teaser videos about the tablets, before the official name of the Sony Tablet S leaked last month. Recombu had a sneak peak at the tablets at a Sony event, but it’s the first time availability and European pricing has been confirmed.
The Sony Tablet S will be available from mid-September, it has a Tegra 2 processor and comes in capacities of 16GB and 32GB (WiFi) and 16GB (WiFi and 3G), an SD slot and dual 5-megapixel and 0.3-megapixel cameras. What’s most interesting about the tablet is its asymmetric design, which is designed to be light and stable, with enhanced screen visibility.
Available later in November the Sony Tablet P has a unique folding design and dual screens, where (for example) you can use one for reading email and the other for typing. It is also powered by a Tegra 2 processor, has dual cameras and weighs 372g. Alongside a MicroSD slot storage is 4GB and it comes in a WiFi and 3G version only.
Each can access music via Music Unlimited and films from Qriocity, while eBooks are available from Reader Store. Both tablets can stream music at the touch of a button to wireless speakers and photos to a TV
Wi-Fi only models are equipped with Android 3.1, which is fully upgradable to Andro
id 3.2. The Wi-Fi/3G version comes with Android 3.2 out of the box.
What’s interesting is the pricing, which Sony confirmed at IFA today. the Sony Tablet S will cost 479 Euros (around £424) which is relatively competitive. however the Sony Tablet P will be cost whopping 599 Euros (£530) which seems a huge amount of money. Although of course UK price has yet to be confirmed
The Sony Tablet S will be available exclusively from Curry’s & PC World and John Lewis from mid-September, with pre-orders starting 31st August.
