Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc announced: Android 2.3, HDMI and a 4.2-inch screen

Having just sat through a Sony press conference where we were asked to don 3D glasses no less than 97 separate times, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Sony Ericsson was going to announce a Xperia smartphone with a 3D screen. Sadly, you’d be wrong.

That doesn’t mean to say the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc doesn’t have some imaging tricks hidden up it’s sleeves. It’s the first phone to feature what’s called the Mobile BRAVIA Engine. Like Nokia’s ClearBlack displays, it promises sharper image quality and in particular, truer colours – blacker blacks, skinner skins, that kinda thing.

There’s an HDMI connection so you can watch your HD content on your (Sony Bravia) HD Ready TV.

Shipping with Android 2.3/Gingerbread the updated platform also brings with it excellent gaming capabilities, which you’ll be able to take advantage on on the 4.2-inch Reality Display (‘reality display’ comes top in today’s Marketing Phrases That Provide No Clues As To What It Means Awards).

Billed as the ‘most entertaining of smart phones’ it’s worth a look for anyone who wants to enjoy the best possible film experience on their phone.

And for that select group of people that count ‘a phone design that is slightly curved and as thin as 8.7 mm at its thinnest part’ as a key part of their purchasing decision. It’s also perfect for the impatient amongst you, as it’ll be available worldwide with the first half of 2011.
