Sony Xperia P confirmed at MWC 2012

Once called the Nypon, the Sony Xperia P has just been confirmed at MWC 2012. With a focus on screen quality, the 4-inch qHD Reality Display takes on White Magic technology for what Sony believe is the brightest screen on the market. Other specs include a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and the same, charming UI as found on the Sony Xperia S.

The Sony Xperia P will therefore be Sony’s new upper mid-range handset available in three brushed aluminium finishes – what appears to be a brushed black, white and pinky red as seen below. While it looks similar to the Sony Xperia S and U, unlike its plastic big and little siblings, the aluminium finished Sony Xperia P should have a fair bit of weight behind it appeasing sturdy phone Sony lovers the world over.

Expected in Q2 2012 running Android Gingerbread and packing NFC technology for contactless payments, we can’t wait to get our hands on an Xperia P in the coming days. When we do, we’ll share our first impressions of Sony’s first foray into aluminium Androids, put the UI through its paces and hopefully get one in for a review shortly after.
