Sony Xperia S ICS update UK network availability

The Sony Xperia S may be a flagship, but it’s been stuck on last year’s Android for too long. Technically, Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread is effectively 2010’s Android as Ice Cream Sandwich was unveiled last year and just this week we found out about its successor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Be that as it may, Xperia S users have cottoned on to the fact that despite their handset being classed as ‘flagship’, the leading competition is running ICS out the box, which certainly stings.

The HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3 sport their own modified versions of Android Ice Cream Sandwich and will no doubt be gearing up to accept Jelly Bean in due course, but with that in mind, the Xperia S is looking a little tired by comparison. Users of the unlocked iteration have been granted upgrade access to ICS already, provided they don’t run into the update troubles which plagued some users. For those rocking a carrier specific Sony Xperia S, we’re collating the information as we speak on when you’ll be granted the same tasty privileges as your SIM-free fellowship and we’ll continue to update this page.

In case you were waiting for an ICS laden Sony Xperia S in the Vodafone store before you picked one up, don’t. Vodafone is the only major network not to stock Sony’s new handsets. You’ll have to rely on a SIM-free handset, or check out alternatives from the likes of Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U.
