A miniature version of the Sony Xperia Z1 may be on the way

We’ve seen a resurgence of “mini” smartphones as of late. Samsung and HTC both have smaller versions of their flagship devices available for those who prefer compact screens in the form on the Galaxy S4 mini and HTC One Mini. But Sony may be the latest company to employ the same tactic, and its rumoured device sounds anything but mid-range.

Xperia Blog was sent a leaked brochure from Japanese carrier Docomo which lists out the specifications for the so called Xperia Z1 “mini”. Officially, the phone seems to be called the Xperia Z1 f, with specifications including a 4.3-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.

The standout feature, though, is the camera. The spec sheet alludes to the Z1 f featuring the same 20.7-megapixel camera used in the Xperia Z1. That, combined with near-flagship specifications, would make the Z1 f an extremely attractive proposition compared to the current crop of mid-range devices. There’s no indication of when the handset will be released, however, nor if it will ever be seen outside of Japan.
