Following cross-network price increases just last week, it seems mobile phone networks are still feeling the squeeze.
T-Mobile recently announced that they’ll be chopping their fair-use data limit from a whopping (and smartphone customer-attracting) 3GB to 500MB.
Set to change on the 1st February, T-Mobile announced, “If you want to download, stream and watch video clips, save that stuff for your home broadband.” Wince.
A drop to under a fifth of the previous data limit, T-Mobile has said that their average customer uses only 200MB a month, so this seems to be aimed at heavy-use smartphone customers.
T-Mobile has promised that anyone who exceeds the limit will still be able to access internet browsing and email, though downloads will be capped. We couldn’t glean whether this meant T-Mobile’s own email client, or we’ll still be able to receive work email, Gmail and the rest.
Happy to flog high-end phones, but not happy to give them the service they need, some people, like Android software house and consultancy, Little Fluffy Toys, aren’t happy. To the extent of telling you how to cancel your contract with T-Mobile.
A spokesperson for T-Mobile said that the reduction of the data limit would, “ensure an improved quality of service for all of our mobile internet users.”
