Tesco value smartphone to hit UK stores

Tesco CEO unveils a new value smartphone and second Hudl tablet, set to launch later this year.

Following on from last year’s bargainous Hudl tablet, Tesco is now working on a value smartphone as well as a follow-up to the Hudl, creatively titled the Hudl 2. A Tesco phone is an enticing prospect and should pack some decent specs but come in at an affordable price, when it hits UK stores in 2014.

Check out our guide to Tesco’s value smartphone, including likely specs, UK price and launch date.

Tesco to launch a value-for-money Hudl smartphone in 2014

Tesco’s Chief Executive Philip Clarke revealed the smartphone plans in a BBC interview, but was sparing with details. However, expectation points to an affordable device, most likely priced between £100 and £150, that will pack strong mid-range specs. The Tesco phone is likely to be hot competition for the Motorola Moto G, which is still a truly excellent class leader that can be picked up for around £99.

The Tesco phone should be officially launched towards the end of the year, and we should also see the Tesco Hudl 2 emerge around September, just in time for the Christmas sales. The original 7-inch Hudl is one of our favourite low-cost tablets, coming in chaper than the likes of Google’s Nexus 7, while still packing a crisp screen and decent performance.
