Is it a Tron lightcycle? A Covenant weapon from Halo: Reach? Nope, it’s a smartphone, that can apparently be used when going out for a swim.
This wrist-mounted and multi-coloured touchscreen phone is known only as the SUB and is the work of Round Trip Investments.
We’re not sure if it’s an in-development piece of kit or just a concept but the listed spec makes for an interesting if baffling read.
The water and shock-proof SUB reportedly runs on Android 2.2/Froyo, has a 3.5-inch screen and a virtual Qwerty that comes with Swype pre-installed.
Calls are made via an external speaker and wireless Bluetooth. Presumably this is not when you’re underwater, unless there’s also a hybrid snorkel/Bluetooth headset in the pipeline.
There’s a 5-megapixel camera for taking pictures of angelfish or the bottom of the swimming pool and a GPS unit to help you find out where you are.
While we reckon a durable, wrist-mounted sat-nav device could be useful for the avid mountain biker, we can’t see why anyone in their right minds would use this anywhere else; it’s definitely up there with the touchscreen watchphone in the nice-idea-on-paper stakes.
Alternatively it’d be a great accessory if you were going to a party dressed as Buzz Lightyear, or for when the first inevitable nu-rave revival kicks off in a couple of years’ time.
