Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update begins today

Owners of Windows Phone mobile phones will today be able to access the latest software upgrade: Windows Phone 7.5 Mango release date

Launching globally, the update will be available from 6pm UK time today. It will be a gradual update and at the time of writing we’re not sure which network will be getting it first, although Microsoft has assured us all customers will be running Mango on their handsets, by the end of October.

If you are getting getting the update, you’ll receive a notification on your phone. In order to download it you need to connect via Zune on a PC or Windows Phone 7 Connector on a PC.

Highlights of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update include: deeper integration with Twitter and LinkedIn through People Hub; the ability to group friends; multitasking; the ability to post to multiple social networks; chat across Facebook and IM and tag and post photos directly to Facebook. Earlier today Microsoft updated the Market Place, enabling you to download 30,000 apps directly through your browser, instead of having to use Zune.

We spoke to Vodafone who confirmed: ‘the Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) update to be made available to all Vodafone UK HTC 7 Trophy and LG Optimus 7 owners over the coming weeks….. The roll out is being phased by Microsoft and some Vodafone customers will start to receive notifications of its availability for their device once from today. ‘

We’re really excited by the update, it seems like Microsoft has really listened to feedback and has brought in a host of improvements.
