ZTE’s Firefox OS phone will be sold on eBay for £59.99

It’s been awhile since we last saw the ZTE Open, the world’s first Firefox OS phone, but the handset will be made available in the UK “soon”, according to the Chinese company. ZTE intends to sell the device on eBay across the world, giving consumers pretty easy access should they wish to purchase the phone.

And the ZTE Open will be pretty cheap too. ZTE intends to sell for phone on eBay for £59.99 unlocked, or $79.99 in other regions. The Firefox OS device has been available in Spain and Venezuela for some time, but the phone’s sale on eBay will mark an official worldwide launch.

Don’t expect particularly great specs from the device, though. As the price suggests, it’s intended to be an affordable, entry-level device – maybe even a handset for a first time smartphone owner. The ZTE Open features a 3.5-inch 320×480 LCD display, a single-core processor clocked at 1Ghz, a 3.2-megapixel camera, 256MB of RAM, and 512MB of internal storage. Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.1 are also onboard, with the device powered by a 1,200mAh battery.

Still, if you’re eager to try out Firefox OS on official hardware, then it’s hard to argue with the low barrier to entry. If you’re not familiar with Firefox’s attempt at a mobile operating system, then check out our hands-on with the ZTE Open back at MWC 2013.
