Facebook inside Xperia: Sony Ericsson turns up to the Facebook party

There’s something to be said for arriving fashionably late to the party. Alongside the announcement of the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro is Sony Ericsson’s unveiling of Facebook inside Xperia.

Facebook inside Xperia is basically deep drill Facebook integration in a similar style to the INQ Cloud Touch and HTC’s ChaCha and Salsa phones.

So you get neat things like Calendar sync, which automatically pins any ‘Events’ you’re ‘Attending’ on Facebook to your phone’s calendar.

Another neat feature is that Facebook photos that you’ve uploaded and ones you’re tagged in will show up your phone’s gallery as well.

So be prepared for hundreds of your hideous drunken photos to start populating your Xperia phone’s gallery – we hope that there’s an optional Embarrasment Filter for this particular feature.

Through the fancy sounding ‘Media discovery widget’ (pictured right) you can directly watch YouTube videos that friends have posted, and if you’ve got the Spotify for Android app installed, you can also access Spotify playlists and songs that your friends post too.

We like that Sony Ericsson has added these interesting features rather than just copying what INQ did with the Cloud Touch.

Facebook inside Xperia will come pre-installed on the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pros from launch.

Sony Ericsson wil also be rolling this out to the Xperia Arc, Xperia Play and Xperia Neo throughout the summer as well.

We’ve asked Sony Ericsson for more concrete rollout dates for the Arc Play and Neo but so far they’ve only been able to give us a vague “Q2/Q3” deadline – so expect late summer.

We’ll update you with set-in-stone dates as soon as we get them.
