LG Prada 3.0 announced: Catwalk queen with 4.3-inch 800 nit screen

LG’s big fashionista comeback is now all official and legit; we’re at the London launch now and we’re just waiting for it to do its little turn on the catwalk. Until we’re able to grab some hands on action with the LG Prada 3.0, here’s the official lowdown.

LG’s NOVA technology, first seen on the Optimus Black, makes a return here. The 4.3-inch WVGA screen boasts a scintillating 800 nits of brightness. This might not sound like much on paper but as we’ve seen in our screen comparisons, it makes a difference.

As was revealed in the leak earlier today, the Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread-running phone features a custom black, grey and white user interface that’s in keeping with the fetching silver and black stylings of the phone itself.

Michel Kim, head of Europe Mobile Division for LG said in a speech that the UI styling “is in keeping with the minimalist design,” and that it allows for greater legibility in direct sunlight.

There’s also a selection of eye-catching wallpapers, the default one of which mirrors the Saffiano leather-effect of the back of the phone. The LG Prada 3.0 is very much a phone sold on its looks. Measuring 127.5 x 69 x 8.5mm it’s no brick.

Fashionable Ice Cream

Coming with Texas Instrument’s OMAP 4430 1GHz dual-core chip; it’ll be pretty nippy too. The LG Prada 3.0 follows the same ‘tri-dual’ design of the LG Optimus 3D, i.e. 512MB per each of the CPU’s cores.

Though it won’t be able to compete as well with the quad-core phones of the future, it’ll at least be on par software-wise, LG has confirmed that an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich is in the pipeline for the Prada 3.0.

Over on the back there’s an 8-megapixel camera that’s capable of recording 1080p HD video at 30fps. Internal storage is listed at 8GB and there’s a microSD slot with expansion at up to 32GB. So there’s plenty of space for HD video alongside apps, music and the rest.

Though there’s no HDMI port on the LG Prada 3.0 itself, there’ll be an HDMI adapter sold separately. The microUSB port has MHL connections so you’ll be able to slot the adapter – which conveniently doubles as a kickstand – right in and then plug in your HDMI cable.

Though full pricing details aren’t forthcoming right now, LG has announced that the Prada 3.0 will be hitting shelves in western Europe and South Korea in January next year.
